“How do you pour concrete when it’s 80 below zero? That was a question posed to us when challenged with removing and replacing a large modular structure’s roof / cooling fan deck floor, on the north slope of Alaska, in January, while in operation. This was further challenged by the constraint that any infrastructure we put in place for the pour had to be removable within a 4-hour window in case the fans had to be started. It’s hard to summarize all the innovative constructability ideas we developed from specialty concrete mixes, collapsable / insulated scaffolding, live piping load path alteration, and suspended construction decks, amongst many others. It was the type of job I dreamt to be on when I started my career and got the opportunity in my first three years. I’ll never forget it.”

“Our first project with this client was not only a large, multi-discipline project, but one of our largest projects to date. Through the dedication and collaboration of the team, there were over 1,000 deliverables generated without any RFIs from the field or post-construction redlines that were subsequent enough that needed to be addressed. The scope of this project was defined by the constructability challenges first and foremost and the team demonstrated creative tools that not only represented the construction challenges but illustrated the sequencing that fostered collaborative discussions with the client and the contractors. These collaborative model review meetings yielded a unique 4D construction model and schedule and was completed ahead of schedule.”
