Culture as a Choice: Determining the “Right” Place to Work Part 3: Starting Fresh
Great corporate culture can mean different things to different people and choosing the right place to work is no easy feat. Candidates must evaluate everything from salary and benefits, assess the company culture and potential for growth, consider work-life balance, and understand overall career goals. Brindley Engineering has been on a hiring spree, and we wanted to take a minute to ask our newest BE teammates why they chose Brindley Engineering as their workplace of choice. In Part 1 of this series you heard from Katy Summers, a Project Controls Specialist from our Lisle, IL office. In Part 2 you heard from Andrezza Henke Passarelli, a Structural Designer from our Houston Office and in Part 3 of this series we hear from Structural Designer, Phuong (Eva) Nguyen from our Lisle office.
Welcome to Part 3: Starting Fresh with Structural Designer, Phuong (Eva) Nguyen. Switching careers was no small feat for Eva. Finding a place that would welcome a fresh start was daunting. But thankfully, Brindley Engineering is focused on the person, not necessarily the career path when looking for candidates.
Brindley Engineering understands that choosing the right organization is one of the most importantcareerdecisions you’ll make. No matter where you are in your journey, BE wants to know more about you – even if you haven’t followed a ‘traditional’ path. The best part of being in the Brindley Engineering family is you have the freedom to forge your own path and create your own story.
“I’m happy to be here and excited for what’s ahead. Switching careers was a big step, but BE has made it a really positive experience.”
Q: Why BE?Why did you choose this company?
A: I heard about BE through a friend of my husband, and once I learned more about the company, it just felt like the right place to start my new career. I wanted somewhere supportive where I could learn from scratch and BE seemed like a great fit.
Q: Tell us about your job search. What were you looking for in a company?
A: Because I was starting fresh in a new industry, I was looking for an entry-level role that would allow me to learn from the ground up. I wanted something challenging and different, but where I could also
bring in the skills and strengths from my previous experience in education. I focused on finding a company that would support that kind of growth and be encouraging and open to teaching. That’s what I found at BE.
Q: What stuck out to you most when you interviewed at Brindley Engineering?
A: My interview felt more like a conversation than a formal interview. I was nervous going in, but the interviewers made me feel welcome and comfortable. I felt like they wanted to get to know me. The whole experience gave me a good feeling about the team and the company from day one.
Q: What is it like to work at BE?Is it what you expected?
A: It’s been great. It’s even better than I expected. My team is super supportive and always willing to help. It’s a really good place to learn and grow.
Q: What is the culture like at BE?
A: The culture is friendly, collaborative, and encouraging. People here are talented and also very approachable. They really want to see you succeed.
Q: What excitesyou most about the next 2 years?
A: I’m excited to keep learning and get more confident in my role. I’m looking forward to taking on more responsibilities and seeing how much I’ve grown.
Q: What advice do you have for job seekers?
A: Don’t be afraid to try something new. Talk to people, ask questions, and be open to opportunities – sometimes they show up in unexpected ways!
