Great Place to Work® can mean different things to different people. We wanted to go behind the scenes to get a true glimpse into Brindley Engineering, a 3-time Great Place to Work® recipient and learn more about the company culture. This is a 3-part series. In part 1 we talked to 2 newbies at Brindley Engineering. Please meet Oleg Serbin, Project Control Specialist and Victor Olvera, Staff Engineer.

The company culture at Brindley Engineering is defined by collaboration, mutual support, and a shared commitment to personal and professional growth. The focus is on each team member’s development, understanding that their success contributes to the overall success of the company. There’s freedom given for individuals to choose their paths and organize their workdays, fostering a sense of autonomy and ownership.

Q: Why BE? Why did you choose this company?

VO: “Well, the question I asked myself was – ‘Why not?’… In my case, having a proposal from a foreign company, to live abroad, to try my English, all this turned into a challenge – something that honestly never crossed my mind. One of the things that I liked about Brindley from the first interaction was the fact that I always felt supported throughout the hiring process.”

OS: “I saw the chance to apply my expertise from the nuclear sector to projects within the company. Brindley Engineering stood out in the market in terms of quality, collaboration, and culture. I have always wanted to be part of something bigger than just a job.”

Q: What is it like to work at BE?

OS: “I appreciate the BE company culture, the ability to grow, and the willingness to take on new challenges. I can see myself continually growing at Brindley.”

VO: “It is a great place to work and gives you all the tools you need to develop your job the best way possible. Brindley is expanding so fast right now which makes you part of many groups at the same time, that means a lot of interaction to many colleagues.”

Q: What is the company culture like at BE?

VO: “Family first with good time-balance. That’s what I like the most about Brindley. The culture of putting your family first and getting a balance between work and personal development. The four core values are daily present in every activity we do; BE Together, BE Creative, BE Meticulous and BE Reliable.”

OS: “The culture at Brindley Engineering is defined by collaboration, mutual support, and a shared commitment to personal and professional growth. The focus is on each team member’s development, understanding that their success contributes to the overall success of the company. There’s freedom given for individuals to choose their paths and organize their workdays, fostering a sense of autonomy and ownership.”

    A Day in the Life

As a Project Controls Specialist, Oleg describes a typical day for us. “It involves working on client programs that I support. This includes managing schedules, tracking progress, and planning upcoming tasks. This work is conducted in close collaboration with our clients, ensuring that their needs and expectations are met. Communication and client collaboration is one of my favorite ways to develop. I also actively participate in the onboarding of new employees in our department, helping and sharing my experience and knowledge. One of the highlights working at BE is that I continue to learn something new every day, such as Aspen In-Plant Cost Estimator. This has led me to develop new skills and begin to support FEL estimating efforts.”

As a Staff Engineer, Victor tells us that a typical day starts around 7:30am at a client facility. “I usually start work at 7:30 – check my to-do tasks, perform inspections in the field if required, and carry on with back-office activities. I’m frequently in contact with the design department to follow up drawing designs, I attend online meetings from time to time, as well as being part of committee groups to share ideas in order to improve Brindley’s workflows.”

Q: What excited you most about the next 2 years?

VO: “I’d say my aim is to contribute to new initiatives and the growth of Brindley in the Gulf Coast. I am looking forward to more training in areas concerning Process and Piping, and I want to enhance my communication skills.”

OS: “Over the next two years, I’m interested in what I’ll be able to achieve personally and professionally, as well what new things I’ll learn. Continuous development is what I am striving towards.”

Q: What advice do you have for job seekers?

OS: “Be open to change, don’t be afraid of the new. Ask lots of questions. Progress only comes through changes and challenges!

VO: “I would give you 2 pieces of advice. First, be open to learning new skills, especially digital and management. And second, always treat everyone well. One never knows if the person in front of us will later be our supervisor or the one who will give us an opportunity for career growth.”
